A mixture of an overcast, sunny and chilly morning at Climping near Littlehampton, West Sussex and 22 flat coats and their owners met to walk the beach. G has been mad about giraffes since she was tiny so Ness decided to book her a giraffe feeding experience at Marwell Zoological Park. We toured for a couple of hours in the drizzle and, following lunch, G and Ness made their way up to the gantry in the giraffe house for an up close and personal encounter. I stayed on the ground to grab some pictures of the event. All shots taken with D750 and 70-300mm at 3200 to 5000 ISO as it was dark inside the giraffe house and I was pleased how well the camera performed. Weirdly the ambient lighting varied between a pale green and a garish orange depending on position so colour balance was a challenge in post production. G was shaking with joy after her experience so it was the perfect present …. well done Ness! Click any of the thumbnails below to see larger images. We spent another lovely morning at the beautiful Waggoners Wells, Grayshot, Hampshire with a fine group of flatcoats and their owners. Another lovely walk … this time with 24 mad flatcoats, one spaniel and their owners. It was a welcome chance to meet up again with members of River’s Blacklake line at Cranfield near Milton Keynes. All photographs taken with Nikon D7000 and 18-105mm f3.5-5.6 in natural light. Trying to get some groups shots of the flatties being still together was of course a challenge as they were keen to burn up their boundless energy on running, playing and swimming. Spent a lovely morning with our two flat coated retrievers, Iggy and River, walking through the Holywell Estate to raise awareness and money for the Canine Partners charity. Word had circulated on social media prior to going but we were surprised and delighted to meet up with other members of River’s family and their owners comprising: Emmie (her Grandmother), Mollie (her Mother) and her sisters Xenna and Isla. Jack, another young flattie we have known for some time, joined the happy group. The estate was beautiful and the wander through the bluebell festooned woods was really special with many dozens of dogs leading the way. It was a bright and sunny morning which made for some fairly harsh contrast in the open but under the shade of the trees the light was glorious. All shots were taken using natural light with the D7000 and 70 - 300 mm f4.5 - 5.6, and of course I needed fast shutter speeds to keep up with the excitable dogs!
